Many people have different adventures where they can be at one with nature, like a mountain climbing adventure, or forest adventures, etc. Seeing these beautiful creatures close up is just breathtaking and creates an image that you will always want to have with you.

You can kick off your adventure with these crocodiles along the Tárcoles River, Costa Rica. Our experienced tour guides will accompany you. This is one of the safest ways that you can use to explore the life of these impressive creatures. And if you don’t get to see one, then the adventure and experience alone will be worth every effort you put into the quest. In Tárcoles River, there are approximately about 25 crocodiles per square kilometer. Below are some heads-up tips that you need to know before you embark on this quest.

About the crocodiles

Crocodiles rank among nature’s deadliest predators, and for this reason, their presence around you cannot be taken lightly. These predators have been around for millions of years with the average age of a croc being 80 years old. They can grow to 17 feet and only have about 24 teeth explicitly designed for crushing their prey.

The Tárcoles River

The Tárcoles river runs through the Nicoya Peninsula and ends its flow in the Pacific Ocean. It flows through the Carara National Park and also acts as the park’s northern border. Tárcoles River is also used to provide electricity in the region and is also an irrigation connection in the country. You will also notice the many different species of fish and birds in the region like the roseate spoonbills, egrets, and heron. You may even be lucky enough to catch birds flossing up some of the local croc’s teeth.

Crocodile excursion

Whether they are cooling off around the shores of the Tárcoles River or slithering through the river, these magnificent creatures boast of beauty and strength. There are also boat rides that you can take while visiting if you are one who prefers to have an even close up connection with these creatures in their natural environment. Don’t worry; you’re safe in the boat, your tour guides know what they’re doing. Take your entire family out to see the crocs. Your kids, for one, will never forget this experience.

Crocodile watching safety tips

All explorers in Costa Rica need to know some of the few safety tips that may end up saving your life while out with these creatures. Here are a few below:

  • Don’t smell like meat; you will not want the crocs to mistake you for a meal.
  • You don’t want to look like raw meat during your excursion; apply SPF sunscreen on all the exposed skin parts.
  • Don’t carry raw meat; this should be self-explanatory as crocs eat them, so be smart about what you bring on the excursion.
  • Carry binoculars; with these, you can watch the crocs from a safe distance.
