4 CITIES IN COSTA RICA YOU SHOULD VISIT

Traveling to a new country is always exciting, but knowing which cities in Costa Rica to go to can be the difference between a fun and a disappointing trip. We’ve compiled a list of cities for all different tastes in fun and entertainment so that you can make the most of your vacation!

 

San José

No list of cities in Costa Rica would be complete without mentioning San José! That is because it is the capital of Costa Rica and has a rich history. San José has several museums for the history buffs, and that makes it a great destination to take the whole family!

You’ll find the Museo Nacional de Costa Rica which has several collections of antiques and historical items that showcase the heritage of Costa Rica. It also has an old Army Barracks (a particular hit with boys) which has everything from the living quarters to the shooting range and weapons warehouse.

 

The Museum of Contemporary Art offers exhibitions for the art lovers in the group who like to see both local and international artwork. Also, the Parque Zoológico Nacional Simón Bolívar boasts both a zoo and a botanical garden. Although the zoo is great, the garden is our favorite!

 

Another great reason to make this one of the cities in Costa Rica you visit is that they have a great selection of restaurants to choose from. Our favorites are Park City for those who prefer fine dining, or Cafe Rojo for those who prefer a casual quick bite. Jacó

Jacó is a great town to go to for your shopping fix. You’ll be able to find virtually everything here, both high-end products and low-end things like souvenirs. It’s one of the best cities in Costa Rica to get gifts for the family!

 

The other great reason to head to Jacó is to go on some amazing adventures. Ocean Ranch Park has tons of great adventures for singles, couples, and the whole family. One that everyone loves is the crocodile tour, and as it is 100% safe! You’ll be on a huge boat, so you don’t need to worry about any crocs getting on board.

Another popular attraction is the “El Encanto” Waterfall Canopy Zipline Tour. You’ll get to ride on eight ziplines, each with unique views of the area. This tour doesn’t involve much hiking, but for those who want that the Waterfall Canyon Hiking Tour will be more your speed!

 

Monteverde

Speaking of hiking, the outdoorsmen and women should be adding Monteverde to their must-see cities in Costa Rica. Monteverde is a mountain town, and it is known for its biodiversity. There are several hiking trails and tours to go on in the area, and because of the wildlife in the area, it is suggested that you get a tour guide.

 

To keep both the lush greenery and the wide range of animals safe, staying on the hiking trails is a must. Not only is it easy to step on something endangered, but it’s also easy for something endangered to jump on you. Injury on both ends is a likely outcome, and no one wants this situation! So please respect the trails already set out for you, even if your typical style is to venture out on your own.

 

 

Tamarindo

If you’ve ever thought of surfing in Costa Rica, Tamarindo is the place to go! There are several beaches in the area for surfing, kayaking, and even nature watching. The nearby Turtle Beach in Playa Grande is a favorite with kids because if you come between November to April, you can see the Leatherback Sea Turtles lay their eggs!

This isn’t just a cool sight for kids; anyone can enjoy watching the Leatherback Sea Turtles because they can get up to 8 feet long and weigh over 1000 pounds! This is truly a unique area of Costa Rica.

 

Tamarindo Beach is the surfing spot, and although there are great places to surf all over Costa Rica, this location is especially popular with tourists. This is because the waters in the area allow for experts surfers and beginners to get a challenge just a short distance down the beach from each other.

 

The estuaries in the area are numerous, and they allow for some of the best kayaking in Costa Rica. If you’re a lover of water sports, this is the area to head to!
