It also has an old Army Barracks (a particular hit with boys) which has everything from the living quarters to the shooting range and weapons warehouse.

The Museum of Contemporary Art offers exhibitions for the art lovers in the group who like to see both local and international artwork. Also, the Parque Zoológico Nacional Simón Bolívar boasts both a zoo and a botanical garden. Although the zoo is great, the garden is our favorite!

Another great reason to make this one of the cities in Costa Rica you visit is that they have a great selection of restaurants to choose from. Our favorites are Park City for those who prefer fine dining, or Cafe Rojo for those who prefer a casual quick bite. When you want to ditch the kids, check out Vertigo for some great music and cocktails!

Jacó

Jacó is a great town to go to for your shopping fix. You’ll be able to find virtually everything here, both high-end products and low-end things like souvenirs. It’s one of the best cities in Costa Rica to get gifts for the family!

To keep both the lush greenery and the wide range of animals safe, staying on the hiking trails is a must. Not only is it easy to step on something endangered, but it’s also easy for something endangered to jump on you. Injury on both ends is a likely outcome, and no one wants this situation! So please respect the trails already set out for you, even if your typical style is to venture out on your own.
